Baywood Orthopedic Clinic
Dr. Matthews was inspired to open Baywood Orthopedic Clinic because he grew up seeing his physician parents provide personalized, comforting care in their small-town family practice. He realized a private practice was the best setting to deliver a highly personalized level of care. Our core patient demographic is older adults who need reconstructive procedures for painful degenerative changes to knees, hips, and shoulder joints, caused primarily by arthritic conditions. Our nurse practitioner, Becky Pockl, has been with the practice since 2002, and we work really well as a team to deliver high-quality, thoughtful care to our patients.
A PASSION FOR ORTHOPEDICS
Dr. Matthew’s unsurpassed medical knowledge and surgical skills are coupled with a deep empathy born out of experiencing serious orthopedic injuries and a severe occupational accident as a young man. He also had great role models, watching his parents compassionately take care of local families over the course of many years at their small-town family practice. As a teenager, he worked at a scouting camp and found himself providing first aid to campers with serious injuries, which he discovered was both interesting and gratifying.
Although he considered carrying on the tradition of his parents’ family practice, his hometown orthopedist, who was a close mentor, inspired him to pursue a career in orthopedics. And the rest is history—for more than 30 years, Dr. Matthews has been helping to alleviate pain and restore function in people with orthopedic injuries and conditions. His talented nurse practitioner, Becky Pockl, has been at his side for nearly half of those 30 years.
